There are little islands and sand banks all over the place.\u00a0 At one point we went gently aground and had to reverse off the sand bar and try a different route.\u00a0 The captain even broke out our own black and white graduated depth measuring poles on the bow&#8230;\u00a0 All a bit worrying!<\/p>\n<p>By 9 o&#8217;clock we had moored up again near the small village of Nan-gat-gyi.\u00a0 Apparently this village had had to relocate some 750 metres away from the river after a major erosion had washed away a large part of the village.\u00a0 We were met by a reception committee of youngsters from the village.\u00a0 So that solves the problem of the school being shut!\u00a0 We had plenty of willing customers for our notebooks, pencils and crayons!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1063\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/20190127_085742_crop_818x449-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"818\" height=\"449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/20190127_085742_crop_818x449-1.jpg 818w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/20190127_085742_crop_818x449-1-300x165.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/20190127_085742_crop_818x449-1-768x422.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 818px) 100vw, 818px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lots of corn, bean, chillies and tobacco growing around the village.\u00a0 We were accompanied by an ever-increasing number of youngsters &#8211; The barman put it on the bar but a monkey jumped up and drank it.
