A WALK IN THE PARK."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Monfra\u011fue Park is a mere 8 km from our campsite, although the centre, where the Tagus (in reservoir format) winds excitingly through the rocky ravines, is perhaps 17 km away.\u00a0 It&#8217;s time for a visit!<\/p>\n<p>First a walk along the side of the snappily named Embalse de Jos\u00e9 Maria de Oreol-Alc\u00e1ntara II.\u00a0 The River in these parts is really just a series of reservoirs.\u00a0 The one upstream holds back the flow to &#8220;ours&#8221; just like in gardens back home.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3228\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/20220331_1344262-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/20220331_1344262-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/20220331_1344262-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/20220331_1344262-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/20220331_1344262-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/20220331_1344262-2048x1537.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m just going to step back a few days for a moment:<\/p>\n<p>When we were touring the Palace in Aranjuez, we read a bit about the Royal family.\u00a0 I had meant to include some of this information.\u00a0 Frankly, I didn&#8217;t believe it, so I&#8217;ve had to check it out.\u00a0 I can now reliably report the following&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Maria Isabella, daughter of King Carlos IV&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3222\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Maria_Isabella_Infanta_di_Spagna_P.V_Hanselaere_copy_500x632.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"632\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Maria_Isabella_Infanta_di_Spagna_P.V_Hanselaere_copy_500x632.jpg 500w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Maria_Isabella_Infanta_di_Spagna_P.V_Hanselaere_copy_500x632-237x300.jpg 237w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Clearly not my photo!<\/p>\n<p>Maria had thirteen siblings of whom seven were called Maria (including two blokes!).\u00a0 In addition, one of her brothers married a Maria and he had a niece called Maria as well.\u00a0 Incidentally, Maria&#8217;s mother and grandmother were also both called Maria!\u00a0 Family gatherings must have been fun.\u00a0 &#8220;Anyone seen Maria?\u00a0 &#8220;Yes, she&#8217;s looking after Maria for Maria and Maria.&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;By the way Maria said Maria, Maria, Maria and Maria were going to be late.&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;Does anyone know if Ferdinand is coming this evening?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s now ten o&#8217;clock at night and we&#8217;ve just had our neighbour knocking on our door (and this is really true) to tell us our alarm is going off.\u00a0 I assured him that it wasn&#8217;t our alarm!\u00a0 &#8220;The noise is all around.\u00a0 It&#8217;s in the trees.\u00a0 It&#8217;s insects!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Really?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Have you never heard of cicadas?!!!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Oh, I&#8217;m very sorry!\u00a0 Please will you come and explain that to my wife!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some Germans must lead very sheltered lives!<\/p>\n<p>You can imagine the build-up to this interaction.\u00a0 Fritz&#8217;s wife (I think she may be called Maria) would have been saying, &#8220;Those bloody Brits and their caravan alarm.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t sleep with that racket going on. Get dressed, go and wake them up and tell them to switch the bloody thing off!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not going to do that!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Oh yes, you are Fritz, or else you&#8217;re sleeping on the couch tonight!&#8221;&#8230;\u00a0 We had a good chuckle about that\u00a0 &#8211; and they snuck of early this morning with an embarrassed wave!<\/p>\n<p>OK, now back to the recent past.\u00a0 Where were we?\u00a0 Yes, birds.\u00a0 Being so close to the Monfra\u011fue National Park, we had to revisit the Gypsy&#8217;s Leap.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3221\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/20220331_1500542_copy_3024x1701-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/20220331_1500542_copy_3024x1701-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/20220331_1500542_copy_3024x1701-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/20220331_1500542_copy_3024x1701-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/20220331_1500542_copy_3024x1701-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/20220331_1500542_copy_3024x1701-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The fantastic rock formation on a bend in the reservoir.\u00a0 The full story about this was told in a blog from previous years!\u00a0 Suffice it to say that the huge cliffs hereabouts are home to about a hundred pairs of vultures, several pairs of black storks and peregrine falcons as well (allegedly) as one pair of eagles.\u00a0 Fabulous viewing.\u00a0 But there are a lot of noisy bird watchers about &#8211; on this occasion, mainly German and Danish &#8211; with monster telephoto lens.\u00a0 I know I take a lot of photos, but compared to these guys, I&#8217;m a total novice.\u00a0 The German beside me must have taken at least 500 photos during my 20 minute twitch!\u00a0 And he&#8217;d been there all day!\u00a0 That&#8217;s digital cameras with motor drives and massive memory cards for you.\u00a0 It&#8217;ll take him a long time to view and delete all but the best 10 shots.\u00a0 It takes me long enough to deal with my little collection!<!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_220403_114938_927.sdocx--><\/p>\n<p>The Embalse de Plasencia, a short distance north of the town of Plasencia, is just waiting to be walked along.\u00a0 The EU money spent on the superb pathway alongside the Eastern Bank of the reservoir was money well spent.\u00a0 The track meanders in and out of the side branches of the water and allows for an easy stroll or bike ride.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3223\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Screenshot_20220401-135914_MapMyWalk2-1024x695.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"475\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Screenshot_20220401-135914_MapMyWalk2-1024x695.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Screenshot_20220401-135914_MapMyWalk2-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Screenshot_20220401-135914_MapMyWalk2-768x521.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Screenshot_20220401-135914_MapMyWalk2.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We can only manage the stroll option because our bikes are\u00a0 safely stashed with the gas BBQ in our garage back at Galmpton!\u00a0 We made just over four miles &#8211;
