CAN WE SEE THE WHOLE OF NORTHUMBERLAND?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I doubt it, but we&#8217;ll have a good try!\u00a0 In fact our friends from Chieveley, Barry and Sybil, came for a full day&#8217;s guided tour.\u00a0 Last year on the Isle of Wight, Barry had proudly shown us all the houses in which he had lived, where he went to school, where he had his first cigarette &#8230; and his first kiss!<\/p>\n<p>Now it&#8217;s Glenda&#8217;s opportunity to retaliate!\u00a0 First, the compulsory coffee at Rothbury Golf Club just down the road from where her parents had had a fixed caravan.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3491\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/20220607_1105522_copy_3628x2041-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/20220607_1105522_copy_3628x2041-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/20220607_1105522_copy_3628x2041-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/20220607_1105522_copy_3628x2041-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/20220607_1105522_copy_3628x2041-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/20220607_1105522_copy_3628x2041-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Passing three Running Foxes, we headed for a five minute shop-stop at Grays of Walkworth.\u00a0 Mind you, five minutes was all it took to dispose of a collective \u00a3100+.\u00a0 I hate to think what would have been the outcome of a more extended retail extravaganza!<\/p>\n<p>Sybil bought the pair of earrings that I was supposed to have got as a surprise birthday present for Glenda on a previous visit &#8211; but didn&#8217;t!\u00a0 This brings me to the business of &#8220;suggestions&#8221; and hints.\u00a0 &#8220;That looked like an interesting shop&#8221; means &#8220;Jam the brakes on, do a U-turn and let me have half an hour!&#8221;.\u00a0 Similarly, &#8220;What do you think of these earrings, or these, or these?&#8221; means, &#8220;Although they are expensive, I would really like the pair I&#8217;m holding in my right hand as a surprise on my birthday!&#8221;\u00a0 Why not just say &#8220;Buy the perishing things!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 15.4px;\">Anyway, we were heading for Longhoughton and the coastal walk towards Craster.\u00a0 However, it was cold and windy so we branched off to Foxton GC and had an abbreviated walk on the sands towards Boulmer (of FBI fame).\u00a0 We shared the mile long beach with an unaccompanied, demented dog which ran backwards and forwards chasing the waves for our entire walk!\u00a0 It must have covered 20 miles while we did our two!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3492\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/20220607_1339472_copy_3736x2245-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/20220607_1339472_copy_3736x2245-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/20220607_1339472_copy_3736x2245-1024x615.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/20220607_1339472_copy_3736x2245-768x461.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/20220607_1339472_copy_3736x2245-1536x923.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/20220607_1339472_copy_3736x2245-2048x1231.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t you just hate these crowded beaches?!\u00a0 Maybe the jerseys, hats and long trousers offer a clue as to why we were virtually alone!\u00a0 The white line along the low tide mark is not breaking waves, it&#8217;s comprised of mini ice-floes!\u00a0 (And if I get that comment past the censor, it&#8217;ll be a miracle!)\u00a0 (I didn&#8217;t,\u00a0 but I&#8217;ve put it back in on the grounds that she won&#8217;t read it again until it&#8217;s too late!)\u00a0 Barry was fixated on getting kippers for tomorrow&#8217;s breakfast.\u00a0 So we had to stop in Craster (after a brief reconnaissance of the goodies in the Longhoughton Running Fox).<\/p>\n<p>From the village it is but a short walk to Dunstanburgh Castle &#8211; His widow declared that anyone who did likewise would suffer the same fate.
