MELBOURNE AND BACK TO THE WARM!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Forty minutes south of Melbourne city there is a hill overlooking Port Phillip Bay.\u00a0 (It might even have been &#8220;an hill&#8221;, grammatically speaking!)\u00a0 The first British explorers entered the bay in 1802 and subsequently named the hill Arthurs Seat due to its resemblance to Arthur&#8217;s Seat hill in Edinburgh, Scotland. The main difference appears to be the lack of an apostrophe in the Australian version.<\/p>\n<p>Captain Matthew Flinders was the first European to scale Arthurs Seat.\u00a0 So it was probably his grammatical shortcoming that was the source of this difference!\u00a0 Apparently, he left the ship&#8217;s name on a scroll of paper, deposited in a small pile of stones at the top of the peak. Here, Flinders was following the British tradition of constructing a stone cairn to mark an historical location. is located on the upper slopes of Arthurs Seat, a short distance below Chapman&#8217;s Point.\u00a0 An easy walk from the Eagle (explained later!).\u00a0 Easy, if you set off in the right direction!\u00a0 We took 90 minutes to find it!\u00a0 But when we did we had a superb view over the bay towards the Heads.\u00a0 &#8220;It&#8217;s behind you!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3965\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/20221118_1314223-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/20221118_1314223-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/20221118_1314223-1024x638.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/20221118_1314223-768x479.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/20221118_1314223-1536x957.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/20221118_1314223-2048x1276.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A chairlift ascending the hill of Arthurs Seat was opened in 1960 and closed again 46 years later.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, work began on constructing a replacement, the Arthurs Seat Eagle.\u00a0 This was after many years of planning &#8211; just a bit too crowded for our liking!<\/p>\n<p>After a great stay with Jeff and Laurel (thank you again guys!), it was back to Tullamarine Airport where we had to go through security so many times I lost count.\u00a0 First my belt buckle triggered the alarms.\u00a0 &#8220;Please try again.&#8221;\u00a0 On the next pass it was my credit card that made me bleep.\u00a0 &#8220;Try again!&#8221;\u00a0 Next time through the scanner it was a 20 cent coin in my pocket!\u00a0 &#8220;Again!&#8221;\u00a0 Then on the fourth pass, I was pulled aside as a random check!\u00a0 Would you believe it?<\/p>\n<p>Eventually I was reunited with Glenda, only to find that she had been &#8220;arrested&#8221; for trying to smuggle a pair of nail clippers and a small penknife onto the plane in our cabin bags!\u00a0 We had the option to go back outside the secure area and put the offending articles in the hand luggage and check it in.\u00a0 As we had plenty of luggage allowance and heaps of time to spare, we elected to do just that.\u00a0 With a few recriminatory comments along the way, it is fair to say!<\/p>\n<p>So, back to security.\u00a0 Credit card, belt and 20 cent coin were safely deposited in the tray for scanning (fast learners, us!).\u00a0 So, why was I pulled aside AGAIN?\u00a0 I was subject to yet another random check &#8211;
