BRISBANE CITY."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Labor Government decided it needed a really good vote winner.\u00a0 They elected to go for reasonably priced public transport.\u00a0 This would have the dual advantages of being a vote winner AND moving a lot of vehicle journeys off the roads.\u00a0 Maybe!<\/p>\n<p>The scheme was introduced throughout Queensland as a six month trial in the lead-up to last year&#8217;s state election by the then-Labor government.\u00a0 The LNP quickly promised to match it and made it &#8220;permanent&#8221; after they won power.\u00a0 Whatever the journey, by rail, tram, bus or ferry (on public transport) it was charged at a flat rate.<\/p>\n<p>It has proved very popular with public transport users, to the surprise of absolutely no-one!\u00a0 The use of buses has gone up by 16%, trains by 24% and ferries by 43%.<\/p>\n<p>The amazing part of this story is the cost of the actual fare.\u00a0 You can now travel any distance for just &#8211; wait for it &#8211;\u00a0 50 cents.\u00a0 That&#8217;s about 25p in the UK!\u00a0 So the two of us travelled nearly two hours on the train from Nambour to Central Station in Brisbane for a total cost of $1.\u00a0 No wonder you now can&#8217;t park within 10 km of any train station in the state!\u00a0 Cars are abandoned everywhere!\u00a0 For the record, based on our limited experience, a dollar would buy a maximum of ten minutes parking in the city.\u00a0 And that&#8217;s if you can find a space!<\/p>\n<p>Robin and Linda have recently bought an apartment in central down town Brisbane.\u00a0 (Located at the blue spot on the &#8220;b&#8221; of &#8220;Brisbane&#8221;!)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5968\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Screenshot_20250401_220345_Maps-235x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"235\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Screenshot_20250401_220345_Maps-235x300.jpg 235w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Screenshot_20250401_220345_Maps-803x1024.jpg 803w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Screenshot_20250401_220345_Maps-768x979.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Screenshot_20250401_220345_Maps.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 235px) 100vw, 235px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We were able to rent this from them at a very reasonable cost.\u00a0 Thank you Robin and Linda!\u00a0 We planned a four night peaceful break with Jeff and Laurel, friends from Melbourne who we had met years ago on a trip through the Kimberley.\u00a0 In the event, it was extended by a day when Glenda&#8217;s brother arrived for an appointment in the city the day before our visitors got here.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5961\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/20250403_0944392-300x230.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/20250403_0944392-300x230.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/20250403_0944392-1024x784.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/20250403_0944392-768x588.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/20250403_0944392-1536x1176.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/20250403_0944392-2048x1568.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He had a hire car and we took advantage of this and cadged a ride to the top of Mt.
