SUNSHINE COAST."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Life on the Sunshine Coast goes on.\u00a0 Sun, rain, sun, rain, sun, rain &#8230; To be fair, this is the wet season, and in between the showers it gets lovely, sunny and dry!<\/p>\n<p>During the time we were in Brisbane, Robin and Linda cleaned their car, the Ford Everest, and swapped it for a brand new white monster.\u00a0 A BYD Sealion 8.\u00a0 The model was introduced to Australia just the previous week.\u00a0 Talk about being trend-setters!\u00a0 Talk about us being confused when we arrived at Woombye station.\u00a0 No Ford in sight.\u00a0 To be fair, no BYD either, but that did trundle down the road a few minutes later.\u00a0 Full of inventive Chinese inventiveness.\u00a0 It even tells you when to take a coffee break &#8211; a camera is scanning the driver&#8217;s face all the time for signs of tiredness, boredom, yawning or extensive blinking.\u00a0 They just need a microphone to pick up snoring and the car will be really safe!\u00a0 Or just dead annoying!\u00a0 One really excellent feature is that on entry, the seats lower to make it easier to get aboard.\u00a0 Then when the doors are shut, the seats return to their programmed height.\u00a0 Neat.\u00a0 (Just discovered that the Tesla does the same, if you have the right settings activated!)<\/p>\n<p>Frisby is a fixture.\u00a0 Every Sunday, late afternoon &#8211; come rain or sun.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s Sunday, so we are at the beach in Caloundra spectating frisby from a safe, non-sandy distance.\u00a0 And here is the new car.\u00a0 BYD aka &#8220;Build Your Dreams&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7356\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/20260301_1741032-300x213.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"213\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/20260301_1741032-300x213.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/20260301_1741032-1024x727.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/20260301_1741032-768x545.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/20260301_1741032-1536x1090.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/20260301_1741032-2048x1453.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We visited the Coolum Surf Life Saving Club a few times.\u00a0 It has become one of our favourite coffee stops.\u00a0 We really should have taken out social membership the first time we called!\u00a0 We visited the Maroochy River Golf Club (where we are members) several times for coffees or coffee and cake deals.\u00a0 And twice for the Wednesday evening steak night.\u00a0 250 gm rump steak with chips and salad for $ 22 pp.\u00a0 Really good!<\/p>\n<p>Now.\u00a0 The slippery step story!\u00a0 At the water park on Phu Quoc, while not taking any of the wild and dangerous rides and slides, I restricted myself to the lazy river where nothing violent ever happens.\u00a0 But getting to the river involves lots of steps.\u00a0 When wet they are indeed very slippery.\u00a0 I came to rest at the bottom of one flight with a bit of a lump on the back of my head!\u00a0 Luckily, I was almost at the bottom of the flight when the incident occurred.\u00a0 So I didn&#8217;t bump down many steps.\u00a0 To be fair one bash was enough.\u00a0 I guess I was a bit dazed for a few seconds, but was able to get up and indeed, ride the lazy river again.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t report the incident to the sub-editor, but I did tell Robin (who is pretty good at monitoring sports injuries).\u00a0 He diagnosed a bit of concussion.\u00a0 This developed into brief spells of vertigo when I lay down in bed.\u00a0 The ceiling lights circled gently above me for a few seconds before settling down.\u00a0 Bending over to tie my shoe laces was a bit interesting too!\u00a0 The deal struck with Robin was that if these symptoms lasted more than two weeks, I should go and see a doctor.\u00a0 Well they did, so I did &#8230; and I told a rather unamused Glenda!\u00a0 This was the reason that I had been resisting booking a side trip to New Zealand!<\/p>\n<p>The doctor was booked (at 1 hour&#8217;s notice &#8211; just like in the UK &#8211; not!).\u00a0 He gave me a good going over.\u00a0 Eyes, working.\u00a0 Ears, selectively working (as well as they do).\u00a0 No physical signs of damage.\u00a0 Heart, working.\u00a0 Brain, suspect &#8211; but that&#8217;s absolutely normal!\u00a0 &#8220;You should be apples &#8230; but &#8230; we could arrange a brain and inner ear examination by CT if you feel that would be helpful.&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;Will tomorrow afternoon be OK?&#8221;\u00a0 Could do &#8211; will do &#8211; did!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Can you send me the results by email?&#8221;\u00a0 &#8221; No, impossible &#8211; I can&#8217;t share them with you unless you have an Australian medical providers number!&#8221;\u00a0 &#8221; But, maybe, I can put everything on a disc for you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Robin transferred all the data to Martin, for an under-the-radar peek.\u00a0 Not sure how legitimate this is, but he reported that there were no issues to be concerned about and sent me one picture which indicated that I really did have a brain &#8211; hopefully for good.\u00a0 One night spinning lights, the next, all serene.\u00a0 And fortunately, not a rotating light in sight since.\u00a0 The spinning overhead fan was a bit confusing though!<\/p>\n<p>Enough of that!\u00a0 Too much even.\u00a0 We visited the Imaginatively named &#8220;Yandina Hotel&#8221; you guessed it &#8230; gun cotton (a nitrocellulose explosive) during early European settlement.<\/p>\n<p>The company now promotes the term &#8220;Gun Cotton&#8221; to describe the high-impact quality and aroma of their small-batch roasted beans.<\/p>\n<p>Another one of our favourite places to visit for &#8220;coffee and atmosphere&#8221; and nobody&#8217;s told the gaffer!<\/p>\n<p>As an aside, the traditional Custodians of the land hereabouts include the Kabi Kabi; the Jinibara; the Turrbal; the Jagera; the Quandamooka; the Danggan Balun;
