So clearly we are on, or close to, an old railway.\u00a0 Hence the massive fine!\u00a0 Does anyone even remember the old money???\u00a0 We weren&#8217;t exactly sure where the railway went, but it certainly wouldn&#8217;t have crossed the Coquet where we did&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-806\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181024_125010-300x146.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"146\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181024_125010-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181024_125010-768x373.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181024_125010-1024x498.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Clearly we branched off at some point after the gate!\u00a0 Eventually the cold breeze got to us so we retreated.\u00a0 Later in the day we went on a drive to remind ourselves just how much COUNTRY there is in Northumberland.<\/p>\n<p>First stop was Whittingham where Glenda spent so much of her horsey youth!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-811\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181024_145705-300x146.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"146\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181024_145705-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181024_145705-768x373.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181024_145705-1024x498.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As we walked through the village there were so many cars, mini-buses and taxis parked up by the church we thought there must be a celebrity funeral going on.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-810\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181024_151926-2988x2472-300x248.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181024_151926-2988x2472-300x248.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181024_151926-2988x2472-768x635.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181024_151926-2988x2472-1024x847.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But no.\u00a0 The church door was open and the church empty.\u00a0 We found the entry in the visitors book that we had left on our last visit in the Spring of 2015.\u00a0 And then the church warden came in muttering about us leaving the door open.\u00a0 Once we had convinced her that we had left it as we had found it, she moved the focus of her dissatisfaction to the carparking mayhem outside.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s the school pick up time.\u00a0 Happens everyday at this time.\u00a0 Extremely inconvenient if we want to hold a funeral&#8221; (especially, presumably, if it&#8217;s a celebrity one!).\u00a0 &#8220;In my day, children used to walk to school &#8211; now they are all driven here&#8221;, we were informed.\u00a0 Probably, and this is just a thought,\u00a0a little more tolerance might have reflected well on this Christian establishment.\u00a0 There is only ONE primary school serving several hundred square miles of darkest, remotest Northumberland.\u00a0 So how else are most of the school&#8217;s young customers going to get there?<\/p>\n<p>Mind you, the perishers hadn&#8217;t left anywhere for me to park.\u00a0 So I&#8217;m with the church warden, maybe something should be done about the problem after all!!!<\/p>\n<p>Later, we visited most of the villages which sent their young sproglets to jam up Whittingham.\u00a0 Coquetvale covers a\u00a0huge, open area of magnificent countryside between Rothbury and the Cheviot Hills.\u00a0 Netherton, Biddlestone, Clennell, Harbottle, Sharperton, Holystone, Great Tosson and back to base via Whitton, Low Hestlehurst and the &#8220;three fords road&#8221; (cleverly named, because you have to paddle through three streams).<\/p>\n<p>A short hesitation at Heighley Gate nurseries, which Wyvale have turned into a failing business, to check out their Christmas trees and bears.\u00a0 We discovered that all bears around here are white.\u00a0 I told you we were heading for the Arctic!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-814\" src=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181025_160342-e1540561870570-146x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"146\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181025_160342-e1540561870570-146x300.jpg 146w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181025_160342-e1540561870570-768x1580.jpg 768w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181025_160342-e1540561870570-498x1024.jpg 498w, https:\/\/tappstravels.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20181025_160342-e1540561870570.jpg 1960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 146px) 100vw, 146px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Many years ago, Glenda&#8217;s parents knew the then owners of Heighley Gate.\u00a0 It was a sort of chicken farm come market garden run by Sally and her husband.\u00a0 Now it&#8217;s a massive all-singing, all-dancing place about to be taken over by Dobbies of Ponteland as Wyvale struggle to control their costs&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Well, that was Wednesday.\u00a0 It was Alnwick on Thursday and Morpeth on Friday &#8211; yesterday as I write this.\u00a0 Getting behind again &#8211; must do better!<\/p>\n<p>BUT FIRST&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>When everybody on earth was dead and waiting to enter Heaven,\u00a0<\/em><em>God appeared and said, \u201cI want the men to make two lines: One line for the men who were true heads of their households, and the other line for the men who were dominated by their women.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cI want all the women to report to St. Peter.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Soon, the women were gone, and there were two lines of men.\u00a0 The line of the men who were dominated by their wives was hundreds of miles long and in the line of men who truly were head of their household, there was only ONE man.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>God said to the long line, \u201cYou men should be ashamed of yourselves;
